MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah said Tuesday it would look into the case of a Filipina household service worker who reportedly jumped off a three-story building to escape her employers.
In a report to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Consul General Ezzedin Tago said the Consulate had requested community leaders in the Yanbu area, notably a Filipino nurses’ group, to immediately look after the welfare of the 29-year-old Guiyania Kasan, who is currently confined in the female surgical ward of the Royal Commission Medical Center in Yanbu.
A team from the Consulate is due to visit her shortly. Yanbu is located in western Saudi Arabia, 300 kilometers from Jeddah.
The consular team will look into her case as well as her physical condition, including looking into the propriety of filing a case against her employers for maltreatment.
Kasan has suffered many fractures after she jumped off the building. She is scheduled to undergo operation this week.
According to Kasan, her employers have accused her of stealing jewelry, which she claimed were given to her. She added that her employers allegedly locked her up in the bathroom.
