MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. has announced a partnership with Hong Kong-based Hutchison to provide mobile services for Filipino communities in Italy.
PLDT Global Corp., through its subsidiary PLDT Italy, has signed an agreement with Hutchison Global Communication for a "mobile virtual network operator" (MVNO) venture in Italy.
Through this partnership, Smart, PLDT's cellular subsidiary, will be able to run its mobile commerce platform and offer services such as electronic loading (or e-load) and enable sharing of prepaid credits among Filipino subscribers in Italy.
The joint venture will likewise offer services -- branded as “Smart Pinoy” -- such as video calling and video streaming, according to PLDT.
PLDT Global is the international sales and marketing arm of PLDT. It has launched similar MVNO services in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Hutchison Global, through its subsidiary H3G S.p.A, operates as a mobile media company offering telephony services in Italy. Its parent firm, Hutchison Whampoa, is one of the largest publicly listed firms in Hong Kong.
