UAE, RP agencies ink labor training accord
MANILA, Philippines — A Philippine agency and a United Arab Emirates (UAE) "counterpart" have signed an agreement for the training and certification of Filipino welders, online news site Khaleej Times (www.khaleejtimes.com) reported.
Philippine-based Primary Skills Incorporated (PSI) in Manila and the Middle East Industrial Training Institute (MEITI) based in UAE signed the agency agreement March 12, at the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
Philippine Ambassador Libran Cabactulan, who witnessed the signing, said this agreement will boost the capability of the Filipino welders, who have gone to work overseas across the globe.
William Christopher Liu Jr., president and chief executive officer, signed for the Primary Skills Incorporated while Haytham Akkila, managing director, and Hamad Saif Al Mansouri, chairman of the Board, signed for Middle East industrial Training Institute.
Under the agreement, MEITI will train Filipino welders and ensure that they get the American Welding Society (AWS) Certification and the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNY Certification).
The agency agreement appointed PSI as MEITI’s exclusive agent for AWS and ASNT Training and Certification Services and other related programs in the Philippines.
As such, PSI will promote the training to Filipino companies, whose welders needing to be trained and certified by two American societies.
Under this agreement, the UAE Institute will provide the highest service standard to these welders, who maybe trained either in Manila or in UAE.
Filipino welders will become Certified Welding Inspectors and Certified Welders, after the training and successfully passing the American examinations. - GMANews.TV, Article posted March 18, 2009 - 04:06 PM
