TAGBILARAN CITY – Charges of large scale illegal recruitment and estafa were filed against two women who allegedly defrauded Boholanos of millions of pesos in fees for non-existent jobs in Dubai.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Bohol filed complaints at the Tagbilaran City Prosecutor’s Office against Erlinda Jamaldin, also known as Erlinda Evangelista y Pondoc and a resident of Barangay Tiptip, Tagbilaran City, and her associate Eduardina Estrella, who is residing in Dubai.
The complaint was based on affidavits of three victims – Joseph Joy Evangelista, Arnold Soliva and Alejandro Arena.
Jamaldin reportedly rented office space at Soliva Building for her recruitment firm AVR Consultancy where she placed a banner announcing job opportunities abroad.
Soliva, a registered nurse and son of the owner of the Soliva Building, said Jamaldin informed him in 2007 that there were vacancies for nurses in Dubai.
He added that Jamaldin showed him and five other companions an e-mail from a certain Estrella, an alleged business associate in Dubai, containing information about job openings for nurses in that country.
Jamaldin allegedly told Soliva that the fastest way to work in Dubai was to go there as a tourist.
